Condition

Symbol of the quality of the cover

M Mint. New. Perfect.
NM NM. Near Mint. Cover was probably used but it is still in perfect condition.
EX (= NM-) Excellent. Cover is in excellent condition overall but sings of use are noticeable; minor scrapes, slightly contoured, corners are slightly bent. Sometimes small cracks are found on old covers in surprisingly good condition.
VG+ Very Good+. Cover is in pretty good shape, but has noticeable scratches, corners bent, stiches worn out, possibly has big cracks on stiches, corners and outline of the cover, some gaps; circular contour of the record can create a visible lines on cover. Overall, however, the image on cover is exelent visible.
VG Very Good. In this condition image on cover is still well visible, but defects described above for VG+ are even more considerable.
G Good. Cover is well worn but functional. Images are still distinguishable. Possibly big ruptures, significantly crumpled, stains.
P Poor. Quality of cover is very bad.
No Cover Missing. Cover is lost, or the record was initially released and sold without the cover. For instance, sometimes special editions of picture-disk were released without covers in special bags.
Generic Generally, ordinary paper or carton cover or sleeve, probably with circle cut out to show the label. Also often found branded covers or sleeves of labels, manufacturs, pressed or printed companies.

Symbols of quality of the record

M Mint. New record. M Sealed – hasn’t been played yet because the cover is sealed. M – the record is in perfect condition even though the cover was opened (or it was factory unsealed).
NM Near Mint. Record was played, but its condition hasn’t been affected. Natural minor rustle in pauses is acceptable (seldom, but noticed even on new records). Looks either ideal or with some minor scuffs which are nearly inaudible.
EX (= NM-) Excellent. Record was used, but it is still in excellent condition. Possible minor scratches, which are barely audible in the form of “rustle” or crackle and not affecting the overall sound quality. Audibility of such defects also depends on the quality and type of stylus.
VG+ Very Good +. The record was actively used, but, overall, the quality is satisfactory. Small scratches during audition, produce not loud clicks. Generally, “sand-like-sound” is present, but overall audio quality is acceptable.
VG Very Good. Audio quality is still acceptable but clicks, noises and “sand-like-sound” can be clearly heard. Possibly (happens on rare occasions) moment jumps. On the face of it scratches and scuffs are visible.
G Good - not bad but in this case - almost bad. The record is still audible, but, most likely, you will get no satisfaction from listening to it. Scuffs and scratches, possible jumps, clicks are audible and significantly worsen the quality of the sound.
P Poor. The quality of the record is very bad. Playing such record could damage stylus and, therefore, is not recommended. It makes sense to keep such records only if they are very rare or if you really want to.
...+; ...- …+ slihtly better than…; …- slightly worse than… .
